What mods are "Definitive Mods" for you or the overall playerbase? What mod do you recommend for someone to try before they give up a game (edit) or even before they start? So far, all I can think of are GMDX for Deus Ex, Brutal Doom for Doom, and JSawyer for Fallout New Vegas. how many of these "definitive" mods are out there? That is, mods that change the game design (not just technical issues) to be more of itself, taking away the flaws, improving the strengths, and perfecting (or at least improving) the game to be what it was always meant to be.

GMDX gave me the definitive Deus Ex experience. The game at once feels entirely different and as it should be, just Deus Ex, but now practically flawless. Among many changes the AI is excellent (it now pays attention to sound, searches, and uses strategy in combat depending on the type of enemy), the stats are balanced and have discernable effects pretty much every time, the weaponry feels good, and the whole world just feels more interactive, which is what Deus Ex was always meant to be. I started playing Deus Ex with GMDX recently. I stopped playing about 7 hours into the game. the game felt dead with the AI not noticing unconcious people and the crossbow not being able to knock people out when I wanted to do a no kill run. Two years ago, I couldn't get into Deus Ex.
